Lviv, Ukraine

Lviv is a beautiful town. Spared from bombing from both sides during World War II has meant the city exists as a time capsule of European architecture, which is a lovely backdrop to the place’s chilled-out vibe. I was there in 2015, and the bars were full of soldiers spending a weekend in the city on R&R from the fighting in Donbas—fighting which, sadly, meant the city’s cemeteries were growing with new graves and fresh flowers. It was sad then, and no doubt immeasurably sadder today.
